The first part of the book introduces the notion of social business, a subset of social entrepreneurship that aims to fight poverty via financially sustainable model, in 2 forms: either making products that directly help fight poverty, or being a business owned by the poor, so that profits will be feed back into the community and the poor. This model will have the potential to transform the world, while govt, corporate lobbying, or nonprofit orgs are limited by many existing barriers.

The remaining 3 parts of the book focus on the Grameen Bank activities and history.

  1. Work with government and advocate for policy change
  2. Harness market forces and see business as a powerful partner
  3. Convert individual supporters into evangelists for the cause
  4. Build and nurture nonprofit networks, treating other groups as allies
  5. Adapt to the changing environment
